What happens in the post-credits scene?

Doctor Strange features a post-credits scene, which teases the character’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The scene takes place in Kamar-Taj, where Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) has been training in the mystic arts under the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton). Strange is visited by Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who tells him that he is disgusted with the way that the Ancient One has been teaching students. Mordo then vows to kill all of the other sorcerers, before leaving Kamar-Taj.

This scene sets up Mordo as a potential villain in future Doctor Strange films, as well as teasing the possible appearance of other characters from the comics, such as Nightmare and Dormammu.

What does it mean for the MCU?

Heading:What does it mean for the MCU?

The post-credits scene in Doctor Strange has caused quite a stir, with many wondering what it could mean for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) going forward.

In the scene, we see Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) meeting with fellow Avenger Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who has come to ask for his help in finding Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Strange agrees to help, but only if Thor agrees to let him keep an Eye of Agamotto – an Infinity Stone – as collateral.

This raises a number of questions, not least of which is how did Strange get his hands on an Infinity Stone? As far as we know, there are only six in existence and they are all meant to be guarded by powerful beings. It’s possible that this is a brand new Infinity Stone or that Strange has found a way to tap into its power – either way, it’s sure to have major implications for the MCU going forward.

Theories on what the post-credits scene could mean

The post-credits scene in Doctor Strange has left many people scratching their heads. There are a few theories on what it could mean and what could happen in the next movie. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

Theory 1: Doctor Strange sets up the Infinity War

The first theory is that Doctor Strange sets up the Infinity War. In the post-credits scene, we see Strange meeting with Thor and telling him that he will help him find Odin. This could be a setup for the Infinity War, where Strange uses the Time Stone to help defeat Thanos.

Theory 2: Doctor Strange sets up a sequel

While it’s not official yet, a Doctor Strange sequel seems all but inevitable at this point. And if that’s the case, it’s possible that the post-credits scene is setting up what’s to come.

In the scene, we see Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) in Hong Kong, where he has just completed a mission for Strange. He appears to be contemplating his life choices up to this point, and he’s not happy with what he sees. “It’s all been lies. All of it,” he says before taking out a couple of bad guys. “There’s so many of them… so many… corrupt. And I helped you. I considered you a friend. But you’re just like all the rest… You think you can control it all… But you can’t.”

With that, Mordo goes on a mission to destroy all of the sorcerers that we meet throughout the film. This includes Wong (Benedict Wong), who Mordo spare earlier in the film at Strange’s request. It seems clear that Mordo is going to be the antagonist in any sequel, which should make for an interesting dynamic considering his history with Strange.

Theory 3: Doctor Strange sets up the next phase of the MCU

While it’s certainly possible that the post-credits scene in Doctor Strange doesn’t necessarily mean anything for the larger MCU, there’s also a possibility that it could be setting up the next phase of the franchise. This theory posits that Doctor Strange could be setting up a battle between the Sorcerer Supreme and Thanos, who will be the main antagonist in Avengers: Infinity War.

In the comics, Doctor Strange is able to defeat Thanos by using the Time Stone to trap him in a time loop. However, it’s possible that this could be foreshadowed in the MCU by having Doctor Strange use the Time Stone to prevent Thanos from gaining any more Infinity Stones. This would certainly set up an interesting conflict for Avengers: Infinity War and beyond.
