If you have a Discover card, you can also get a free FICO® Score every month, which can help you keep track of your credit score and see if it’s increasing over time.

Increase your credit score

One of the most important ways to improve your credit score is to make on-time payments each month. If you have a history of making late payments, your credit score will suffer. You can also improve your credit score by paying down your debts, maintaining a good credit utilization ratio, and by diversifying your credit portfolio.

Pay your bills on time

One of the best ways to improve your credit score is to make your payments on time, every time. Payment history accounts for 35% of your FICO® Score, so this is a significant factor in improving your credit score. You should aim to have a good payment history with all creditors, not just Discover.

If you have missed any payments in the past, you can still improve your credit score by making all future payments on time. As time goes on and you continue to make timely payments, your credit score will gradually improve. You may also want to consider paying off any past-due balances or collections accounts, as these can also drag down your credit score.

Keep your credit utilization low

One of the most important things you can do to improve your credit score is keep your credit utilization low. Credit utilization is the percentage of your available credit that you are using at any given time, and it has a major impact on your credit score.

Ideally, you should keep your credit utilization below 30%. This means that if you have a credit limit of $1,000, you should try to keep your balance below $300. If you can keep your credit utilization even lower, below 10%, that’s even better.

There are a few ways to lower your credit utilization. One is to simply pay down your balances. Another is to ask for a higher credit limit from your issuer. If you have a good history with your issuer and they see that you manage your account responsibly, they may be willing to increase your limit.

Another way to lower your credit utilization is to spread out your debt over multiple accounts. This can be helpful if you have maxed out one credit card and are looking for ways to lower your balance. by opening another account and transferring some of the balance, you can effectively reduce your overall credit utilization.

Whatever method you choose, keeping your credit utilization low is an important step in improving your credit score.

Use a credit monitoring service
