Costco Takes What Credit Cards?

You can use Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover at Costco.
Cards must have a 16-digit number and be embossed with the cardholder’s name.
Prepaid cards and cards without a personal identification number (PIN) are not accepted.

American Express

Costco American Express cards are accepted as a form of payment at Costco locations in the United States, Puerto Rico, and online. Costco also accepts Mastercard, Visa, and Discover credit cards.

Different places take different cards—and sometimes, it can be hard to keep track of which cards are accepted where. When it comes to Costco, the store is a little bit more particular about which cards it accepts than some other places. Here’s what you need to know before you try to pay with your card at Costco.

Costco only accepts two types of credit cards: Visa and Mastercard. The store doesn’t accept American Express, Discover, or any other type of credit card. If you have a Visa or Mastercard, though, you should be good to go.

As for debit cards, Costco also only accepts Visa and Mastercard. If you have a debit card that’s not from one of those two companies, you won’t be able to use it at the store.

If you plan to pay with a credit card, you’ll need to bring a card that uses the Visa network. This includes Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. American Express is not accepted at any location.
