The concept of Doctor Strange was first introduced to audiences in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in Thor: The Dark World. However, it wasn’t until Captain America: The Winter Soldier that Derrickson became interested in directing a Doctor Strange film. Derrickson was hired as director in June 2014, making Doctor Strange his first comic book film. Production took place from November 2015 to April 2016 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia.
Doctor Strange had its world premiere in Hong Kong on October 13th, 2016 before releasing domestically in the United States on November 4th.

The film entered development in April 2013 with Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer attached to write a screenplay for Paramount Pictures. Donnelly andOppenheimer’s script was turned down in favor of one by Jon Spaihts; but Daredevil director Mark Steven Johnson also wrote a screenplay that underwent several rewrites by Derrickson and Cargill. Derrickson was hired to direct the film in June 2014, making it his first feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Spaihts rewriting his screenplay. Cumberbatch was chosen for the eponymous role in December 2014 ahead of Tom Hardy and Jared Leto; he signed on to play Strange later that month. Principal photography began in November 2015 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia; additional filming also took place at England’s Longcross Studios. Filming concluded in New York City on April 3, 2016.
After Credits Scenes
After credits scenes are a common practice in movies, especially in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They are a way to give the audience a little something extra for sticking around until the very end of the credits. Doctor Strange has two after credits scenes. The first one is a scene with Thor and Doctor Strange discussing the events of the film. The second is a scene with Mordo, who is a villain in the film.
What is an after credits scene
An after credits scene is a scene that appears after the credits of a movie. These scenes can be used to tease a sequel, to resolve a plotline, or just to have some fun with the audience. In some cases, an after credits scene can be used to set up the entire plot of the next movie in a franchise.
Doctor Strange has one post-credits scene. The scene features Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) discussing the nature of power and how it corrupts those who wield it. Mordo decides that he must “balance the scales” by taking away the power of other sorcerers. This sets up his character’s arc for future movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Doctor Strange has two scenes during the credits. The first one shows Doctor Strange and Thor discussing Loki’s recent disappearance. The second scene is a short clip of Thanos, who is seen collecting the Infinity Stones.
The After Credits Scenes
Doctor Strange has two post-credits scenes, one at the very end of the credits, and one midway through the credits. The first scene is a teaser for next year’s Thor: Ragnarok, and the second is a more traditional post-credits stinger.
The first after credits scene
The first after credits scene shows Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) meeting with Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Strange offers to help Thor find Odin (Anthony Hopkins), who is missing. Thor declines, saying that he and his companions will handle it.
The second after credits scene is a bit of comic relief. It shows the Master of the Mystic Arts (Doctor Strange) and Wong (Benedict Wong) playing a game of chess. Wong wins and Doctor Strange concedes that he needs more practice.
The second after credits scene
The second after credits scene is perhaps the most intriguing. It features Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) meeting with The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) in what appears to be the Astral Plane. Strange is trying to come to terms with what he’s seen and learned, and The Ancient One is trying to help him make sense of it all. It’s a fascinating scene that sets up a lot of potential for future movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The third after credits scene
In the third after credits scene, Doctor Strange visits The Ancient One in the astral plane, where she is now trapped. He asks her why she didn’t tell him about Dormammu, and she says that it wasn’t his time yet. Doctor Strange then gives her some of his own power to help her fight off Dormammu.
