How Many Post Credit Scenes Are There?
Doctor Strange has two post-credits scenes, one at the very end of the credits, and one about halfway through.
The first scene shows Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) meeting with Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who has come to ask Strange for help finding his missing father Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Strange uses the Eye of Agamotto to locate Odin, and Thor thanks him before leaving.
The second scene takes place in a New York City alleyway, where Doctor Strange and Wong (Benedict Wong) are discussing the recent events. Suddenly, they are attacked by a group of people who have been possessed by the spirit of Dormammu. Doctor Strange uses the Eye of Agamotto to reverse time and defeat the enemies.
What Happens in the Post Credit Scenes?
The first post-credits scene shows Mordo taking away the magical abilities of a man who abused his power. He tells the man that there are too many sorcerers in the world, hinting at his eventual turn to villainy.
The second post-credits scene is a brief teaser for Thor: Ragnarok. In it, Thor and Loki are discussing their recent defeat at the hands of Doctor Strange when they are interrupted by the arrival of the Hulk.
What is the Significance of the Post Credit Scenes?
The two post-credit scenes in Doctor Strange have different levels of significance. The first is a set-up for Thor: Ragnarok, while the second is a more important tease for Avengers: Infinity War.
The first scene shows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) coming to find Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to ask for his help in finding Odin (Anthony Hopkins). This is clearly a set-up for Thor: Ragnarok, which is due out in November 2017, and it’s not particularly significant beyond that.
The second scene, however, is much more important. It shows Strange using the Time Stone to view millions of potential futures, all of which end with Thanos (Josh Brolin) winning. He then says, “We’re in the endgame now,” which is a very significant statement.
It’s possible that this scene was intended as a tease for Avengers: Infinity War, which is due out in May 2018. If that’s the case, then it’s a pretty big hint at what we can expect from the movie. Thanos has been teased since the first Avengers movie, and it seems like he will finally be making his move in Infinity War.
