Borrowing a Kindle Book from a Public Library
You can borrow Kindle books from your local public library and read them on any Kindle device or free reading app. To borrow a book, you’ll need to sign in to your Amazon account, have a compatible device, and have a valid library card. Keep in mind that most libraries only loan out a limited number of Kindle books at any given time, so you may need to place a hold on a book if it’s currently unavailable.
Check if your local public library offers Kindle books
Before you can borrow a Kindle book from your library, you need to make sure that they offer Kindle books. You can do this by going to your local public library’s website and searching for “Kindle books” or “eBooks.” If they offer Kindle books, you’ll see a link or section about it on their website.
If your local public library doesn’t offer Kindle books, you can try searching for a nearby city or town to see if they have an eBook lending program.
Find out if you need a library card to borrow Kindle books
Anyone with a valid library card from a participating library can borrow Kindle books from their public library. If you’re not sure if your local library lends Kindle books, you can check on the website or contact them directly.
If you don’t have a library card, you can usually sign up for one at the circulation desk. Most libraries require that you live in their service area to get a card, but some may let you sign up for a non-resident card that comes with a fee.
