The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is one of the best travel credit cards on the market, and its comprehensive insurance coverage is a big reason why. You’ll get primary rental car insurance, trip delay and cancellation insurance, baggage delay insurance, and more.
American Express Platinum Card®
The American Express Platinum Card® offers a variety of benefits that can be useful when renting a car, including primary rental car insurance. This means that if your rental car is damaged or stolen, you will be reimbursed by American Express up to the full value of the car, without having to file a claim with your personal auto insurance first. You will also be covered for any damages you cause to another vehicle or property while driving the rental car.
Citi Prestige® Card
The Citi Prestige® Card offers primary rental car insurance, which means that if you have an accident in a rental car, your own auto insurance will not be required to pay for damages. You will be responsible for a deductible, and your rental car company may still charge you for its own damages.
Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards Credit Card
The Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards Credit Card offers primary rental car insurance, which can save you money if you have to file a claim. This card also offers a variety of other benefits, including a competitive rewards program and no foreign transaction fees.
Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard®
Offers primary rental car insurance, as well as a number of other travel-related benefits and perks.
If you have a credit card that offers primary rental car insurance and you rent a car, you can decline the rental company’s collision damage waiver (CDW) or other optional insurance coverage and save some money.
There are a few things to keep in mind, though:
Primary rental car insurance generally doesn’t cover everything. For example, it may not cover personal belongings or tires.
You may need to meet certain requirements to qualify for primary rental car insurance, such as renting the car for a certain number of days or using the card to pay for the rental.
Not all credit cards offer primary rental car insurance. And of those that do, some only offer it in certain countries.
Still, if your credit card offers primary rental car insurance and you meet the requirements, it can be a valuable perk that can save you money and give you peace of mind on your next trip.
