Who is eligible to join?
Navy Federal Credit Union is open to active and retired members of the military and their families, Department of Defense civilians and contractors, and other select employer groups. In addition, anyone who lives or works in certain areas near military bases may also be eligible to join.

Joining Navy Federal Credit Union is easy and anyone can become a member. There are a few different ways to join:
-Become a member of the military: If you are active duty, reserve, or retired from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard, you are eligible to join Navy Federal Credit Union. You will need to provide a valid military ID when you sign up.
-Become an employee of the Department of Defense: If you work for the Department of Defense in any capacity, you are eligible to join Navy Federal Credit Union. You will need to provide a valid Department of Defense ID when you sign up.
-Become an immediate family member of someone who is already a member: If you have a parent, sibling, spouse, or child who is already a member of Navy Federal Credit Union, you can join as well. You will need to provide proof of your relationship when you sign up.
-Join through the National Military Family Association: The National Military Family Association is a non-profit organization that serves military families. If you are a member of the National Military Family Association, you are eligible to join Navy Federal Credit Union. You will need to provide proof of your membership when you sign up

Navy Federal Credit Union is open to anyone who is a uniformed service member, Department of Defense employee, or a family member of someone who is. You can join Navy Federal Credit Union by opening a share savings account with a $5 deposit. This deposit establishes your membership and gives you a share of ownership in the credit union. You can open an account online, in person, or by mail.
