What is a post-credits scene?
A post-credits scene is a scene that appears after the credits of a movie. Movies will often have these scenes as a way to tease what is to come in future installments, or as a way to give Easter eggs to fans of the franchise. Sometimes, these scenes are used to set up future movies, or to provide closure for certain plot points.
Why do post-credits scenes exist?
The modern post-credits scene began with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in 1986. Director John Hughes added a scene of Ferris (Matthew Broderick) taking a joyride in a police car, and the audience loved it. From there, the practice of adding a post-credits scene to a movie became more and more common, especially in comedies and superhero movies.
There are a few reasons why post-credits scenes exist. For one, they give the audience a little something extra to enjoy after they’ve seen the movie. For another, they can be used to tease upcoming movies or sequels. And finally, they can be used to add an extra bit of humor to the movie (often in the form of an outtake).
No matter the reason, post-credits scenes have become a staple of modern moviemaking. So it’s no surprise that Marvel Studios, the king of post-credits scenes, is at it again with their latest release, Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness. But just how many post-credits scenes will this movie have?
